Macadamia Processing Facility Design in Levubu
Dehumidified drying silos, controlled-humidity kernel stores and insulated envelopes that hold stable low-RH conditions year round. Purpose-built for macadamia producers around Levubu.
The problem
Why macadamia is demanding
Macadamia value is destroyed by moisture and rancidity, not by heat alone — humidity control matters as much as temperature.
Our approach
How we build for it
Dehumidified drying silos, controlled-humidity kernel stores and insulated envelopes that hold stable low-RH conditions year round.
Levubu valley — subtropical fruit and nut pre-cooling demand.
Storage envelope
Macadamia specifications
| Storage temperature | 10 °C to 15 °C for nut-in-shell, 0–5 °C for kernel |
|---|---|
| Relative humidity | 55–65% RH |
| Typical shelf life | 6–12 months at controlled moisture |
| Harvest season | March to August |
| Region | Levubu, Limpopo |
What temperature should macadamia be stored at?
10 °C to 15 °C for nut-in-shell, 0–5 °C for kernel at 55–65% RH, giving roughly 6–12 months at controlled moisture. We set and verify these bands during commissioning.
When is the macadamia season around Levubu?
March to August. We plan installations and major maintenance outside that window wherever possible.
Can you expand our existing Levubu facility?
Yes — we audit the current envelope and plant capacity first, then add chambers or pre-cooling without redesigning the whole site.
